How Do You Get Rid of Acne: 4 Tips To Help Clear Your Skin Fast

Oh how we wish there was a magic blemish remover potion for getting rid of acne and blackheads fast. Unfortunately, there’s not. But all is not lost. Here are 4 Steps you can take to help clear your skin and keep it blemish-free.

1. Visit a Dermatologist

It may seem simplistic, but visiting a dermatologist to get advice about how to get rid of breakouts is one of the smartest things you can do to help clear your skin. Dermatologists are experts in all things skin and therefore the best people to help treat your skin. He or she will examine your skin, give you a diagnosis, and then talk through the best, most-effective options tailored to your skin’s specific needs.

2. Try Topical Acne Treatments

If you can’t make it to a dermatologist, topical treatments can go a long way in helping you with blackheads. A product containing Salicylic Acid, aka Beta Hydroxy Acid, can exfoliate deep down in pores and help unclog them. Salicylic acid also has anti-bacterial and soothing properties, which are ideal for breakout-prone skin. Then there’s benzoyl peroxide, which kills the bacteria that causes acne. Benzoyl peroxide can work wonders but it is a powerful treatment so proceed with caution. It can be drying and can irritate your skin if you use too much too quickly. A little goes a long way.

3. Wash Your Face Thoroughly

Before you apply any topical treatment for blackheads, it’s important to cleanse your face properly so your topical acne treatments absorb better. We recommend cleansing twice a day: once in the morning to remove excess oil and impurities and once in the evening to remove your makeup. Opt for an ultra-gentle cleanser formulated for acne-prone skin and warm water (never hot!). Try a Clarisonic Facial Cleansing Brush, for ultra-clean skin. It will clean your skin 6 x better than your hands alone and will be incredibly gentle.

4. Reduce Skin Irritation As Much As Possible

If you have acne or blackheads, your skin, by definition, is already irritated and not functioning optimally. Any additional skin irritation will impede the healing process and can make things worse. So if getting rid of acne is your goal, you’ll want to avoid irritation as much as possible. Irritation can be caused by over washing, harsh scrubbing, unprotected sun exposure, picking at your skin, and using skin care products with harsh ingredients.
